What's New at Pure Joy

Holly Barclay

Pure Joy welcomes Holly to the team

IMG_2659.jpg

From my first visit to Fifth Wind Farm, I was drawn to the garden with its circular rows and stone pathways. It was autumn and the garden overflowed with squash, kale, and fiery calendula flowers. I would come to know the garden well, coordinating the C.S.A. during the 2013 growing season, and the following year, growing flowers and vegetables for my wedding to Joanna’s son, Daniel.

When Joanna asked me to take over from Joy, another opportunity to work with the Fifth Wind land presented itself. Librarian, gardener, archivist, beekeeper... I am excited to add herbal business owner to the list of roles that animate my life.

Introducing our newest product

Petal Silk Salve.JPG

Petal Silk Salve

Inspired by a customer who uses Pure Joy's Little Chickie Diaper Salve as a massage salve for her baby, we decided to offer an alternative containing rose and other skin softening herbs. Several customers happily tested the new product and, through collective input, the name became Petal Silk. That says it all. Not only is it a perfect massage salve, it is a timely remedy as we enter the season of dry, rough skin.

Ingredients:
Rose, Calendula, Violet and Rose Geranium infused in organic olive oil, organic beeswax and a few drops of Rose Geranium essential oil

Rose Oil
Rose oil has long been used for its cosmetic benefit; its effect on the skin helps to soothe and calm, reducing redness and irritation and is used to treat blemishes while nourishing the skin.

Calendula Oil
Aside from stimulating healing, calendula oil can significantly boost the appearance of your skin. It can affect blood flow to the skin cells, provide antioxidant protection that reduces the appearance of wrinkles and age spots, and even the visibility of scars.

Violet Oil
Both the leaf and flower are used in dry skin conditions, to curb growths, and as a wound healer. Its moist nature is suited for eczema and for healing dry and raw skin. It is also known as an anti-inflammatory.

Rose Geranium
As a constituent in a blended cream or lotion, rose geranium oil is good for clearing sluggish and oily skin, as well as wound, burn and ulcer healing. It also has value to treat eczema, acne, dermatitis and fungal infections.
